The Roles

Have a look at all of the available roles. Each one is very different and has its own responsiblities.

There are four types of leadership role available in these elections:

Each leadership role has a different role to play in making the changes that matter to you… be it on your course, in the Union, in the University, or even the wider community or the world.

We have a staff team who can advise you on the election process and who can support you in your role if you are elected.


 

Full-Time Student Officer Roles

Full-Time Student Officers are the elected leaders of the Students’ Union.

If elected, you will be the public face of the Union, representing Queen’s students in the media, to politicians, to external groups and to the University.

You will influence decisions and lead change in the Students’ Union and the University, through meetings with senior staff and membership of decision-making committees.

You will get students involved in the Students’ Union, leading campaigns and activities that make student life better.

These full-time paid positions run from 1 July, 2021 - 30 June, 2022.


 

Part-Time Student Officer Roles

Part-Time Student Officers represent the interests of a range of students across the Students’ Union.

If elected, you will the lead representative for the group of students you represent, to the media, to politicians, to external organisations and to the University.

You will influence decisions and lead change in the Students’ Union and the University, making sure that the interests of students are considered when decisions are made.

You will get students involved in the Students’ Union, leading campaigns and activities that make student life better.

We have a staff team who can advise you on the election process and who can support you in your role if you are elected.

These voluntary, part-time, unpaid positions run from 1 July, 2022 - 30 June, 2023.


 

Faculty Representative Roles

Faculty Representatives represent the interests of students in their Faculty.

If elected, you will be the lead representative for students in your Faculty, working with School Representatives, Course Representatives and other reps in the Students’ Union to improve the educational experience.

You will participate in Faculty-level committees in the University your School and attend other meetings in your Faculty throughout the year. You will also be a member of the Students’ Union Council and the University’s Academic Board.

You will influence decisions and lead change in the Students’ Union and the University, making sure that the interests of students are considered when decisions are made, and participate in campaigns and activities that make student life better.

We have a staff team who can advise you on the election process and who can support you in your role if you are elected.

School Representative Roles

Undergraduate School Representatives represent the interests of undergraduate students in their School.

If elected, you will be the lead representative for undergraduate students in your School, working with Course Representatives and other reps in the Students’ Union to improve the educational experience.

You will chair and participate in Student Voice Committees in your School and attend other meetings in your School throughout the year. (This could include your School Education Committee and other project committees.) You will also be a member of the Students’ Union Council and the University’s Academic Board.

You will influence decisions and lead change in the Students’ Union and the University, making sure that the interests of students are considered when decisions are made, and participate in campaigns and activities that make student life better.

We have a staff team who can advise you on the election process and who can support you in your role if you are elected.

These voluntary, part-time, unpaid positions run from 1 July, 2022 - 30 June, 2023.

    • School Representative - School of Electronics, Electrical Engineering & Computer Science (SEECS)
    • School Representative - School of History, Anthropology, Philosophy and Politics (SHAPP)
    • School Representative - School of Law (SLAW)
    • School Representative - School of Mathematics & Physics (SMP)
    • School Representative - School of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering (SMAE)
    • School Representative - School of Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences (SMED)
    • School Representative - School of Natural and Built Environment (SNBE)
    • School Representative - School of Nursing & Midwifery (SNAM)
    • School Representative - School of Pharmacy (SPMY)
    • School Representative - School of Psychology (SBS)
    • School Representative - Social Sciences, Education and Social Work (SSESW)

     

    The roles are primarily open to undergraduate students in each School.

    Postgraduate School Representative roles exist for postgraduate students. (Recruitment for postgraduate posts takes place in semester one of each academic year.)
