Ignite Change, Amplify Solidarity, Challenge the Status Quo! In solidarity, in defiance. My candidacy focuses on creating an equitable & just university experience for international students through improved representation, greater financial support, radical anti-racist policies & decolonisation. Let's come together with the shared vision of bringing about radical change.

Manifesto: A Strong International Students Association for a Better Tomorrow

My vision for the International Students Association goes beyond representation; it is about establishing a formidable force capable of driving transformative change for international students. My policies are centered around the urgent need for a better experience for international students. It is my belief that the association must serve as a strong foundation for campaigns geared towards greater financial support, better housing, radical anti-racism, mental health support as well as for transformative change in the student experience. Together, we can dismantle the capital-driven model of education that profits off of students. Keeping these ideologies in mind, this manifesto lays out my commitment towards forging a more equitable, inclusive, and empowered community within Queen’s University Belfast.

1. Better Representation in QUB and Queen’s Students Union

The association must serve as a platform to amplify international students' voices, pushing for equitable representation in decision-making processes. Your concerns and aspirations will be at the forefront of policy-making, addressing the diverse needs of a diverse community.

2. Greater Financial Support

One grave concern among students falling under the international bracket is the disproprtionate fees being paid for the same education as their local peers. Did you know that international students pay anywhere from £15,000 to £50,000 every year just for tuition fees, with some having no scope for scholarships? Education should be accessible, not a burden. We'll fight for increased scholarships, bursaries, and an end to extortionate tuition fees, ensuring that financial constraints never hinder your pursuit of a quality education. Let’s make sure our money is used to better our experience and not line the pockets of the university.

3. Mental Health Support

Time away from home brings about a new and unique set of challenges, especially among international students. With a growing concern and awareness surrounding mental health, I would like the International Students Association, along with the SU, to provide the necessary capacity and support in regards to this matter by advocating for accessible and culturally sensitive mental health services driven by a deep understanding of the human experience. It can get tough at times but I would strive to provide support at every step of the way.

4. Decolonisation of Curricula

A quality education must go beyond eurocentric norms, and be intersectional, while taking into account diverse perspectives. To provide a truly global education, the association must champion the decolonisation of curricula. The International Students Association must work with QSU and other student officers and associations to push for a decolonisation framework within the university. Furthermore, it is essential for the association to work with faculty to incorporate diverse perspectives, histories, and cultures into the learning experience. Let’s make sure our syllabus is more than reheated leftovers.

5. Radically Anti-Racist Student Union

Racism, an ever-evolving challenge, has assumed new masks with growing changes in societal constructs. We have a moral responsibility to be actively anti-racist. The International Students Association must and will take an uncompromising stance against racism through necessary anti-racist action on campus, and wage an unwavering battle against discrimination in all its shapes and forms, in order to create a welcoming space for every single student on campus and beyond.

6. Affordable, Quality Accommodation

We envision affordable and high-quality accommodation. That means no more mould in our kitchens, uninterrupted heating in winter and better facilities for students, without having to pay hundreds of pounds every week. We propose the establishment of student collectives responsible for housing, offering transparency, fair pricing, and an enhanced residential experience.

In addition to the above mentioned initiatives, I aim to implement collaborations with local businesses for employment opportunities, fostering a sense of community through cultural events, and providing dedicated legal support, and comprehensive transition support systems that cover academic, social, and cultural dimensions. These efforts are designed to alleviate uncertainty, reduce stress, and ensure a smoother transition into higher education for all new students. Together, we'll work towards a more enriching and supportive international student journey.
