Name : Karttikeya Hora

Position Standing for : Post Graduate Taught Officer

Education has always been really close to my heart and that is the reason I am putting myself forward for this role. Academia is not just learning its also the passion involved. I have seen first hand the devastating effect lack of support can have on students, I feel passionately about knocking down all such barriers to help people grow towards their aspirations. As a student I faced alot of different hurdles while growing up, I was lucky enough to have exceptional advice and guidance throughout, but that is not the case with every student which makes me want to work as hard as I can to ensure all students have constant support and direction.

As your representative on the Student Union/Council I would aim to ensure that:

1. Anyone can make their voice heard and express their opinion on the running of the school, regardless of faculty, year or any other factor

2. The student body (you!) are kept informed of the decisions made by the Union

3. Decisions made by the council are to the benefit of all students at Queen's

In order to deliver upon these aims I will use my previous experience as a Foreign Exchange Commitee member in my previous University which made sure I was exposed to all kinds of students from many different backgrounds and countries, I was also the prefect during my schooling back home. As well as this I will endeavour to give you opportunities to inform me of what I can do to improve your experience – because you know best what you want to change or expect out of your Student Union.

I will organise more activities where international students can meet up and socialise. My plan is to cooperate with the International Student Society to arrange cultural events that will take place twice per month. The cultural events will be an opportunity for us to learn more about each others cultural background such as language, food, music and traditions.

I believe that creating a cohesive, vibrant community that unites both the young and the old is important to nurturing the growth of individuals.  I believe that community artworks are the anchors of this community, creating and maintaining this sense of community.  Therefore, I believe that works of art, visual and otherwise, should be created and supported by members of a community as important reminders and symbols of cohesive community.

I would be honoured to represent you during the coming year and to be given the opportunity to make a positive impact on your university experience.
