Hello! I'm Becca.
I'm standing to be one of your Postgraduate Representatives on Student Council.
As an Undergraduate, I had only a vague idea of the kinds of decisions student representatives made.
As a current Master's student, I would therefore like to make the process of students submitting motions and giving feedback more easily accessible. This process needs to be clearly signposted and normalised.
We all know how much hard work and innovation goes into a Postgraduate's work. I would like to make giving feedback as smooth as possible so that students can perform at their best without hiccups.
My skills and experience:
- Current International Public Policy MSc student - policy knowledge informs understanding of Students Union Policy
- Social Secretary, then General Secretary for Women's Rugby Club, University of Warwick (2018-19; 2020-21) - during this time I developed my organisational skills, public speaking, teamwork skills and charisma; as General Secretary, I took meticulous minutes for the committee meetings - useful for Student Council!
- Teaching assistant in France (2019-20) - bilingual; developed strong communication skills
- Involved in student activism
As a Postgraduate Rep, I would:
- Be approachable and open-minded - to ensure students feel they are being heard
- Explore new avenues for gathering student input - surveys, polls, posters, etc
- Actively research what kinds of issues Postgraduates are most concerned with - be it more dedicated study space for Postgraduates, or SU lobbying against the government's proposed lowered salary band at which graduates must pay back their student loan; hybrid studying/ working, etc.
Thanks for considering my manifesto!
Becca
