I win, you win. Keep calm and vote for Sneha to represent you. University can be an exciting yet daunting experience. But don't get lost along the way. Make your voice heard because together we can do more and do better.

Starting university can be an exciting yet daunting experience, you will often feel lost in the myriad of tasks and events. But university is an experience in itself, hence it is important that everyone feels informed and involved. Make your voice heard because together we can do more and we can do better; to provide the right support for students to succeed.

These are few of the topics which I think needs immediate action/ implementation. Let me know the problems you have had to face before or during your study at QUB.

Inclusivity

QUB has a major percentage of international students who come in every year. Many of us are probably travelling away for the first time. First few days in the university can be overwhelming and it can be a while till you find your feet.

With the diverse student population at the university, it gives us a good exposure to learn from various experiences from people across the globe. Interaction with fellow students should be encouraged to break the ice during induction or freshers week programmes.

Housing

The student housing crisis this year has left hundreds stranded with nowhere to live. Having experienced this first hand, it is not a very pleasant situation and nobody should have to go through it. For international students who come into a foreign land for the first time with no one to support them in the city it becomes very difficult.

The university has taken many measures to try to cope up, unfortunately it could not serve everyone at a short notice. University should take serious note of this and make alternate arrangements for the incoming students. As a student representative, it is our duty to stay connected to people and help the students while persuading the university to take appropriate measures.

Mental health

I’ll work to ensure that mental health services at the university are approachable and accessible.

Though the university offers exceptional services, the purpose is lost in most cases as students hesitate to take the first step in sharing their concerns and end up suffering more in the process.

University should conduct regular group counselling sessions to ease the students and help them in sharing their concerns. Students can be grouped with mentors or student rep who they can approach easily.

Scholarship Opportunities

We invest so much money and resources on our studies and often question ourselves if it worth it.

Increase scholarship opportunities especially for international students to ease the burden.
