I Guess You Can Teach An Old Dog New Tricks!
Hey Guys,
My Name is Grant (Sterling) Godwin, and I am looking to be your next Mature and Part Time Student Officer.
Firstly let me tell you about myself, I am a 25 year old first year law student, who is wanting to have a carrer in the legal profession as a Barrister specialising in either Corporate Law or being involved in Family Law. I knew coming back to tertiary education would be a daunting task due to the age gap between myself and the other students on my course.
My First Policy, if elected to the position of Mature and Part Time Student Officer would be, put in place a programme for the older and more mature students who are more likely to struggle with using technology, especially during these times of COVID-19 when all learning is online, as some younger students are struggling to adapt to the move from classroom to bedroom learning, . I would suggest having drop in sessions on most campuses and the library during the week and weekends.
Another prerogative I have is to make the electronic section of the library easier to access. Many mature and part - time students have to juggle jobs and simply do not have the time to travel to the library in order to access their facilities. As many students can not access the full course materials to be able to achieve the best results in their degree, compared to the full time students who are much younger.
I will also campaign for the part time students to be awarded the £500 government grant, as they are also affected as well, as full time students who are recieving the government grant, aswell as trying to encourage more mature students to come to red brick universities and proving that not all university students are 18 year olds and removing the stigma, of returning to university after taking a break from university.
