Girls just want to have FUN-damental rights.
Hi,
I am Kasia Kordula [she/her], but most people know me as Kas, and I am running to be your Women Students' Officer.
I am currently a first-year student studying BA Music Performance and have a history in the Performing Industry. As a person, in the music industry, I am constantly seeing women being put at the forefront of exploitation. This has solidified my motivation and drive for women’s rights and civil liberty.
The first thing I want to do as your Women Students’ Officer, is create a ‘Learn to Love Yourself’ scheme, where women who struggle with their body image, have a safe space to learn how to accept and eventually love who they are in this social media age. Media holds a constant worry for women. Their mental health is distressed by the negative implications of social media. They present unrealistic beauty standards through photoshopped celebrities and I want to bring the focus back to loving yourself, as you are.
I secondly want to help women working in male dominated careers. As a woman who works in a car retailer, I often encounter harassment from customers, alongside them doubting my capabilities. It is shocking to know that over 60% of women in the UK have experienced some form of sexual harassment within their workplace. I want to abolish the idea that only certain genders can work in certain sectors. I want to offer extra support for women studying in ‘male dominated’ courses, by inviting women from the wider community, and ask them to share their experiences, and how they became more empowered to continue in their desired job role.
Not much now, however I can promise you that if you vote me for Women Students' Officer, I will give females more than just a voice, I will give us the right to do anything a man can do. Together, we are unstoppable. Never forget, girls just want to have fun(damental rights).
