Tiarnan C. for the LGBT
Hi all,
My name is Tiarnan and I am running to be your LGBT+ Officer this year.
First you would probably want to know a little about who you're voting for. I am currently a first year law student who aspires to go on to practice human rights law when I graduate. I am a bisexual man [he/him] and I have always had a passion for my community which is why I wish to fight on your behalf.
But enough about who I am and more about what I plan to do for you.
My first aim as LGBT+ Officer would be to establish a connection with groups such as The Rainbow Project in order to run a scheme to educate students in everything from the history of the community to protecting your sexual wellbeing. In our current climate it is more important than ever to be keeping yourself safe and having a medium to educate yourself through is an essential tool that I hope can be incorporated into the Union for years to come.
My second aim would be to implement an LGBT+ peer mediation system. With the stresses of COVID-19 many of the worries that members of the community face have been exasperated, however, sometimes it is easier to open up about personal LGBT+ issues with those that can relate and may have very well been through similar experiences. This would be a completely confidential process and would work as a safety net for those that are struggling.
Lastly, I wish to personally become someone that you all feel comfortable with. I wish to create a personal relationship with students so that I can not only speak on your behalf but facilitate your ability to speak up for yourself :)
