Mental health matters, we deserve better!
We as students have had our lives completely turned upside down in the past year. One study found 1/3 of university students have faced a mental health issue they believe they need professional help for. University should be a place for social and academic enrichment, it certainly shouldn't add to the stress we students are already under.
As psychology students we face a unique dilemma in that we have a deep understanding of the workings of the brain and mental illness. This of course does not make us immune to the consequences of poor mental health. If anything, queens psychology department should be doing MORE than other schools as they have a vast knowledge of how stress can impact academic performance.
If you vote for me as student rep I vow to keep mental health at the forefront of discussion with queens staff, because people who are struggling shouldn't struggle silently. I'll always listen to the voice of the students and I have the ability to strongly address concerns with staff and discuss the correct approach in a mature manner.
