QUB Sinn Féin is a political society affiliated to Sinn Féin Óige Phoblachtach, the youth wing of Sinn Féin- the biggest all Ireland political party. Sinn Féin is an Irish Republican and Socialist Party founded in 1905, it is the second largest party in the Northern Irish Assembly and the third largest party in the Oireachtas.
QUB Sinn Féin is committed to pursuing a progressive republican movement, campaigning on issues such as the unjust oppression of the Palestinian people, homelessness, the commercialisation of Queen’s University, mental health, marijuana legalization, equal marriage and support for the LGBT+ community, feminism and the right of women to choose, Acht na Gaeilge and the peaceful and democratic reunification of the Island of Ireland under the terms of the Good Friday Agreement. QUB Sinn Féin works to voice an alternative to the degrading whims of neo-liberalism north and south, in pursuit of a new Ireland, that is representative of all her people.
We meet at the discretion of the Chairperson, of which members will be notified of meetings and other general business over the Cumann’s private Facebook group. Meetings will usually be scheduled a week in advance, with meetings occurring at least twice a month. New members will have the opportunity to be elected to the Cumann’s Officer Board at the Annual General Meeting of the Cumann in October.
Asides from being political activists, QUB Sinn Féin promotes comradeship and fun, facilitating social events, team building exercises and ice breakers throughout the year; from Christmas dinners to casual pints after meetings.
