About

The Equestrian Club is for all standards of riders at Queen's University Belfast, whether beginners or experienced riders. We have weekly lessons at a nearby riding school - Farmhill Riding School, with lessons to cater for all levels of rider. Important to note, you DO NOT need to have your own horse to be a part of the club or to take part in the activities.

The Club participates in a number of competitions throughout the year. Tetrathon is held in November, a competition which sees riders compete in four disciplines: running, swimming, shooting and showjumping. This is a small but fun and exciting competition. Intravarsities are held in March each year. This is our biggest competition which sees us compete against various Irish universities and colleges. Riders compete individually or in teams in either showjumping, dressage or Prix Caprilli. There is a great team spirit at this competiton in a fantastic environment. Finally, there is the BUCS - a new, advanced league competiton. This year will be the first year QUB are participating, with riders competing in both dressage and showjumping.

As well as these more serious competitons, we also have some lighter events to add the the equestrian calendar, such as Christmas and Spring shows, friendly competitons and polo lessons (held at Gransha in Bangor or Tyrella beach depending on the season). This is a fabulous opportunity to have some fun on horseback set to a stunning backdrop and is not serious - just a lot of fun!

We also hold numerous socials throughout the year (at least three each semester) with something to suit everyone. Previosuly we have held pizza nights, pub crawls, pub quizzes and the annual Christmas dinner. Currently we are hoping to hold events in person, but some virtual events we are hoping to run this year include movie nights and quiz nights, etc.

We are very sociable at the yard and away from it, which is hugely important for our club friendships and experiences.
